Nominalization of verbs
“Nominalization” comes from the word “nominal” which means “noun”.
Hence, nominalization of verbs is the conversion of verbs to nouns.
Remember…
A VERB is an action word.
- Please, SHORTEN your sentence.
The “shorten” (verb) describes an action.
A NOUN is any name.
- Please, make your sentence SHORT.
“Short” is the name (noun) of what we want her to make her sentence.
How to nominalize Verbs to Nouns
- Get the verb.
- Think of a noun with more similar spelling and whose meaning is related to the verb.
- Use the noun in a sentence to confirm.
