Nominalization of adjectives
“Nominalization” comes from the word “nominal” which means “noun”.
Hence, nominalization of adjectives is the conversion of adjectives to nouns.
Remember…
An ADJECTIVE describes a noun or pronoun.
- She has a MUSICAL instrument.
The “musical” (adjective) describes the kind of “instrument” (noun).
A NOUN is any name.
- She plays MUSIC.
“Music” is the name (noun) of what she plays.
How to nominalize Adjectives to Nouns
- Get the adjective.
- Think of a noun with more similar spelling and whose meaning is related to the adjective.
- Use the noun in a sentence to confirm.
